Four astronauts on a deep space mission to destroy unstable planets ready for star systems to be colonised, start to have problems as their mission nears its end. This was John Carpenter's first full length film which he wrote, directed and porduced. The film was made on a small budget and whilst not his best films it does have a few good scenes in a mix of sci-fi and comedy. It's influence is that it is gritty view of space rather than the intellectual view of 2001 A Space Odysey.
