This is a good adaptation of the Stella Gibbons novel. In the 1930's a sophisticated young woman is suddenly orphaned and she goes to live with distant relatives on a run down farm. Once there she sets about bringing change to the lives of the people living on the farm. Kate Beckinsale gives a good performance and she is well supported by a good British cast. The film is based on the novel by Stella Gibbons.
