Comment/Synopsis

An orphan (Valerie Hobson) takes the job as governess to the young daughter (Susanne Gibbs) of some distant relatives (Walter Fitzgerald and Michael Gough). They bought the title and mansion, but still employ the illegitimate son (Stewart Granger) of the previous owners who will do anything to take back what he thinks is rightfully his. She also has aspirations and when she falls in love with the man, things start to escalate out of control. This is a good Gothic drama with a strong performance from Valerie Hobson in the lead and a suitably creepy performance from Stewart Granger as the man wanting back his inheritance.
