A couple (David Manners and Julie Bishop) on honeymoon in Hungary have an accident in a bus on the way to their hotel and are taken by a doctor (Bela LUgosi) to a strange castle where a man (Boris Karloff) running a cult lives and has designs on all of them. This is loosely based on an Edgar Allan Poe story but lacks suspense despite having the first pairing of Boris Karloff and Bella Lugosi. The film has a moder (for 1934) European set in contrast to the period sets of most Hollywood horror films of the time. The film was pusing what was acceptable in a hooror film.
