A rich young woman (Jean Simmons) returns to the small rural town of her birth and starts anonymously distributing gifts and money to the local residents. Her attempts to do good backfire as her good deeds cause chaos in the lives of the local people and the town. Meanwhile she falls in love with the local doctor (Robert Mitchum). The plot is not great, but Robert Mitchum and Jean Simmons give good performances with an amiable charm.
