The famous burgler The Bat steal some jewels, robs a bank and then tells the police he is going to the country to give the police a rest. When strange things start happening in a remote country house, an elderly lady (Grayce Hampton) and her maid (Maude Eburne) suspect that The Bat may be involved. This is a mix of suspense, shocks and comedy and as an early sound film the dialogue is somewhat stilted despite being based on a stage play. There is some good camera work with several shoots using a moving camera which is unusal for 1930. The best comic interludes come between Grayce Hampton and Maude Eburne, with Una Merkel playing the more straight dramaic role.
