In the mid 1930's a young girl (Saoirse Ronan) misinterprets the actions of James McAvoy towards her sister (Keira Knightly) and when her friend is raped she falsely accuses James McAvoy of the crime. This sets in train a series of events that has major consequences for those involved. There are good performances from James McAvoy and Keira Knightly and the supporting cast, combined with some good cinematography, notably the scenes on Dunkirk beach.
