Janet Gaynor started her career in silent films and then moved into sound films. She retired from film making in 1939 to marry and start a family when she was still a major star. She was one of the few actors who was successful in both silent and sound films. She was a 1926 WAMPAS Baby. She won the first Best Actress Oscar.
