Jane Fonda is a successful actress particularly between the 1960's and 1980's including the cult film Barbarella. She is the daughter of Henry Fonda and her mother was wealthy socialite. She stated her acting career through Lee Strasberg's Actor Studio. She then got various stage roles before her first film role in Tall Story. This was followeed by Walk On The Wild Side and The Chapman Report. She was gaining critical acclaim but the comedy western Cat Ballou brought her to the attention of the wider public. Her next major role was in Barefoot In The Park, which she said was one of her favourite roles.
Barbarella was a strange science fiction fantasy. THe film made her something of a sex symbol frm the cult film. They Shoot Horses Don't They was a more conventional dramatic role in a depressin era film that gained her a Best Actress Oscar nomination. In Klute she played a prostitute and won her the Best Actress Oscar. The Doll's House was a television version of the Ibsen play. In the 1970's she got more involved in politics as well as acting. Fun With Dick And Jane was a crime comedy. Fred Zinnerman's Julia is set in pre-war Germany and gained her another Oscar nomination. Coming Home was about the treatment of Vietnam veterans and won her the Best Actress Oscar.
She showed her versatility with the comedy California Suite and the thriller The China Syndrome. 9 to 5 is an entertaining comedy of women empowering themselves in the work place. She worked with her father in the emotional drama On Golden Pond and in some ways reflects their own actual difficult relationship. Through the 1980's and 1990's she concentrated more on her aerobics videos and politics before a return to acting in the 2000's with several television roles including Grace and Frankie.
