Comment/Synopsis
A German spy (Conrad Veidt) arrives by U-Boat in the Orkney's and meets up with a female spy (Valerie Hobson) who taken the role of school teacher and a British traitor as part of a plan to sink the British navy. This is an unusual British spy film as all the main characters are German spies. It is however an engrossing story with good twist, production, script and acting. This was the first pairing of Powell and Pressburger who were brought together by Alexander Korda who was an uncredited producer on this film. It is set in World War 1, but was released a few months before the ourbreak of World War 2.
