The life of Henry VIII from the death of his second wife, Anne Boleyn through to the marriage of his sixth wife. The film concentrates on Henry's life and avoids the politics his reign and hence it is the performance from Charles Laughton that carries the film. He captures the character of Henry well and there is good support from the wives, which are all portrayed as very different characters. This was one of the biggset and most expensive British films made at the time.
