Comment/Synopsis
A young woman (Nancy Carroll) who works in the bank rejects the advances of her boyfriend (Edward Woods) who then spreads rumours that she spent the night with a wealthy socialite (Cary Grant). The spurned boyfriend spreads rumours round the town condemning her leading to her being sacked and ostracised. The film is about how important a woman's reputation was and how easily that can be destroyed by rumours. Nancy Carroll gives a good performance of a woman whose morality and treatment of men is questionable in places, but equally she suffers from the constraint of society. Randolf Scott has a comparatively small part as the man caught up between her two lovers.
