Comment
When a young girl (Lillian Gish) is orphaned she is taken in by a poor farming couple. When one of their sons is killed in WW1, she is sent to to work for another couple, but the wife is abusive and the husband makes sexual advances. This is one of those early silent films that combines a mix of themes, drama, comedy, murder, abuse and rape and revolves round a good performance from Lillian Gish and good production from D W Griffth.
