Hedy Lamarr (Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler) was born in Austria and her early films were German productions, including the controversial film Ekstasy. She then moved to America where she was a major star in the late 1930's and through the 1940's. Although a major star in the 1940's and considered to be one the most beautiful women of the period, she did little work from the 1950's onwards.
