Career / Biography

Claudia Cardinale is an Italien actress who was brought up in Tunisia. Her early acting career was in Hollywood and then she moved to Italy and appeared in Italian and French films. Her career spanned over 60 years. She started in films under the guidance of Franco Cristaldi who married her. Early in her career she did not speak Italian and so was dubbed. Her first significant role was in Rocco and His Brothers from Italian director Luchino Visconti. SHe was a major European star by the mid 1960's working with leading directors including Federico Fellini in 8 1/2. Her first Hollywood film was The Pink Panther which was a big box office success. This led to other Hollywood films like Blindfold. Her favourite Hollywood film was The Professionals. SHe was not a great fan of Hollywood and by the late 1960's moved back to Italy. There Sergio Leone cast her in Once Upon A TIme In The West. During the 1970's she made a series of European films. She worked with Werner Herzog in Fitzcarraldo and contined to work into the 2020's.
