The art critic John Ruskin marries a teenage girl he has known for years. She is stifiled by him and his family and when they go to Scotland for her health she starts to affections for a painter he takes with them. Eventually she seeks an anulment of the mariage on the basis of non-consumation. This is a beautifully filmed and produced film, that is also well acted, particularly Dakota Fanning. The problem with the film is the lack of depth in the script. Whilst the film is visually pleasing, you are left with a feeling of so what. There is no conclusion for the plot and some of the big names have very small parts
