A young man and woman who have known each other since childhood want to marry but his father disapproves so sends him out of the country. They both end up marrying other people but this does not change their love for each other. There are a variety of resultant emotional and relational problems. This is a good drama from the silent period of films with good performances from from both Greta Garbo and John Gilbert.
