Comment
A married academic (Edward G Robinson) sends his wife and children away on a holiday and one night going home from his club he meets the woman (Joan Bennett) whose picture he is admiring in a shop window. They go back to her flat and after a few drinks, her boyfriend appears and he is killed by the academic. To save both their reputations he agrees to dump the body, but the police (Raymond Massey) collects clues relating to him and she gets blackmailled. This is a good example of the film noir genre from director Fritz Lang. The script is well written and builds up the tension well. There are good performances from Edward G Robinson and Joan Bennett in the lead roles and the supporting cast also give good performances. There is also a nice twist at the end.
