The writer of a successful novel is travelling by train to Hollywood to make a film of her book. She meets a pilot from the war who she thinks is ideal for the lead role. They end up on a road trip with his friend and then the inevitable relationship develops, though it runs into trouble when he finds out who she is. Whilst John Wayne and Claudette Colbert clashed on set making this film and they do not get on well together in the film but it did show that John Wayne could actually do comedy.
