A doctor (Robert Mitchum) falls in love with a patient (Faith Domergue) who had attempted to kill herself only to find she is married. When he confronts the husband (Claude Rains) he accidently kills him but all is not as it seems and she has a past that comes back to them. It is Faith Domergue whose character is central to film as the woman becoming increasingly mentally unstable that makes this film.
