A shy and awkward teenage boy (Liam James) spends the summer at a beach house with his mother (Toni Collette) and her new boyfriend. He is befriended by the manager (Steve Carell) of a water park who helps him discover his real character as does the girl (AnnaSophia Robb) next door. Although Liam James as the teenage boy is the central character, it is the performance from Steve Carell that carries the film as he bring energy and fun to the role. AnnaSophia Robb gives a gentle performance as the growing love interest.
