An epic and lavish version of Tolstoy's novel covering the lives, loves and battles of aristocratic people in the lead up to and during Napoleon's invasion of Russia. There are intimate stories of love, betrayal and revenge as well as the big sweeping scenes of the pitched battles and the retreat from Moscow. Through all this it is the performance of Audrey Hepburn that that is most memorable alongside some good colour photography.
