An angry man whose life revolves around drink and betting, meets a Christian woman in a charity shop who is being abused by her husband. Their lives cross and come together in this bleak but affirming view of life in northern England in the early part of the 21st century. The power of this film is the realism of the situations and the way the raw emotions are captured. This biggest strength of the film is the performance from Olivia Colman.
