Comment
A struggling artist (Humphrey Bogart) falls in love with a woman (Barbara Stanwyck) whilst on holiday, but he is already married. When his first wife dies, he marries the woman, but when he is attracted to another woman (Alexis Smith) the second wife begins to suspect that he murdered his first wife and she is about to be next. Whilst the plot is nothing new, the film is worth watching for the performance of Barbara Stanwyck as the innocent second wife who gradually realises that she is being poisoned in the same way that the first wife was. There is good support from Alexis Smith as the gold digging woman who wants to be the third Mrs Carroll. This is not one of Humphrey Bogart's better performances and Nigel Bruce plays his usual bumbling doctor character.
