Rod Taylor is the inventor who in 1900 builds a time machine and travels forward in time to a post apocalyptic world where there are two races, one living above ground and one living underground. The underground race have evolved into cannibals who feed off the above ground race. What director George Pal does is paint a future where humanity dgenerates rather than improves. Based on the novel by H G Wells and has a wonderful Victorian style time machine that moves in time but not space with great visuals to support this. This is one of the more faithful adaptaions of the novel and one of the best versions of the time machine.
