A woman (Claudette Colbert) who has been convicted of murdering her brother is on her way to be hanged when she and her escort have to take refuge in a convent when the area floods. One of the nuns (Ann Blyth) thinks that she is innocent and starts to investigate the case. The plot is a typical muder mystery where all the suspects are isolated, even if it is contrived to have them in the same place. The highlight of the film is the performances from Claudette Colbert as the nun turned sleuth and Ann Blyth as the innocent woman facing execution.
