A Djinn from a bottle by an academic tells her three stories of how he got trapped in the bottle. The Djinn offers her three wishes but thinks he is trying to trap her so he tells the stories to persuade her otherwise. The bulk of the film is centred around the three stories that he tells. These stories are well filmed and well told and are the main interest of the film. The relationship between the Djinn (Idris Elba) and the academic (Tilda Swinton) is less interesting. It is a different plot for a fantasy film but it performed poorly at the box office.
