Comment/Synopsis

A young woman (Barbara Stanwyck) accidentally kills her rich aunt (Judith Anderson) and is witnessed by her two friends. Years later one of them returns (Van Helfin) by chance to the town and meets up with the woman who has married the other friend (Kirk Douglas). She runs a successful business and propelled him to District Attorney despite his drinking. Jealousy and misunderstanding create problems for the three of them. Barbara Stanwyck is the central chracter in the film, but the best performance comes from Ven Helfin as he is thrown into a complex web of relationships with good support from Lizabeth Scott as an ex-convict he meets by chance.
