A mute maid is looking after an elderly bedridden woman in a rambling mansion also occupied by her two sons and a housekeeper. A serial killer is killing people with deformities and the old woman fears for the mute maid. This is a good tense psychological thriller that builds up to nice climax. There is a good performance from Dorothy McGuire as the mute but it is Etheel Barrymore who gives the best performance as the concerned old woman.
