Jake Gyllenhaal is an American soldier who wakes up on a train just before it is blown up by a terrorist bomb. He then finds that he is part of a military experiment that enables him to relive the last 8 minutes. He is sent back to stop the bomb and he also mwants to try and save Michelle Monaghan who is on the train.
