A widow from New York (Debbie Reynolds) travels to Arizona in 1911 where she gets a job as a ranch hand to an older woman (Thelma Ritter), has two men (Steve Forrest and Andy Griffith) vying for her affections and when she is the only person standing up to the corrupt sheriff (Ken Scott) ends up being elected as sheriff herself. The plot is quite silly in places, but is entertaining in places as well. Debbie Reynolds is good in the lead, if not really convincing as a wild west sheriff and good support from Thelma Ritter as the ranch owner and Juliet Prowse as the saloon dancer with feelings for one of the men.
