Clark Gable's submarine is sunk by a Japanese ship and after a year behind a desk, he takes over the submarine that Burt Lancaster was due to captain. He sets out to find the ship that sank him, putting him at odds with the crew and putting the submarine in danger. Standard war film with solid performances from both Clark Gable and Burt Lancaster.
