Two young men (John Dall and Farley Granger) decide to murder their fellow student, put him in a chest and then hold a dinner party in the same room with his family, girl friend and teacher who they think gave them the idea. Although this is a stage play set in one room, Alfred Hitchcock manages to build suspense and make you feel for the characters. The film is also notable for being shot as a series of long takes, with minimal editing and cuts which makes it a fascinating example of cinematography and direction. Despite being a 1940's film, aspects of the implied homosexuality of the original play remain.
