A clergyman meets and falls in love with an opera singer with dubious past. This is the doomed romance between the innocent man and fallen woman. Seeing this film today, it suffers from being a filmed version of a stage play and being an early talkie film. Greta Garbo was nominated for an Oscar for her performance, though this is not one of her better performances, with her dialogue difficult to understand at times and her acting very flat and without any passion. This film does not show off any of Greta Garbo's acting qualities or her sensuality, though she did get the Best Actress Oscar nomination.
