Sylvester Stallone wrote and starred in this the first of the Rocky films. Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) is a small time boxer whose day job is as a debt collector and has a shy friend (Talia Shire) who works in a pet shop. He gets the opportunity to go from nobody to somebody when he gets the chance to fight the world champion in an exhibition fight. This was a good idea for one film, but it spawned a whole series of sequels, though it did earn Sylvester Stallone his first Oscar nomination
