Robert Mitchum and his son live in a remote cabin by a river. They help Rory Calhoun and Marilyn Monroe who are travelling down the river to register a gold mine claim. Rory Calhoun steals Robert Mitchum's gun and horse, as so unable to defend themselves from Indian attack Robert Mitchum, Marilyn Monroe and the boy take a perilous journey down the river on an open raft.
