A mother (Joan Bennett) warns her teenage daughter's lover away from her but he turns up and is accidentally killed. When the body that the mother tries to dispose of is found another man arrives (James Mason) to blackmail the mother. Joan Benett gives a good performance as the mother doing anything to protect her family and James mason is good as the cold blackmailer.
