Comment/Synopsis
Starting in 1880 a social climbing Fenchman uses devious means, newspapers and also romances, marries and divorces women to acheive his ends. THis has a good script as it looks at how different people respond to wealth and power. George Sanders is good in the role even though his character is unpleasant and manipulative. There are also good performances from the female characters, especially Angela Lansbury and Ann Dvorak.
