Napoleon and the French army have invaded Spain. Frank Sinatra lead a group of Spanish to transport a giant cannon across country to relive a town occupied by the Spanish. Cary Grant is the English soldier who also wants the gun to help the English fight against the French. They join forces to fight the French and Sophia Loren is the love interest caught between the two of them. Cary Grant is fine as the English soldier as is Sophia Loren as the beautiful peasant girl but Frank Sinatra seems miscast as the illiterate Spanish peasant.
