The owner (Michael Shannon) of a shop in a small town gets drunk after finding his wife (Christina Hendricks) is having an affair with the local sherif (Ron Perlman) and runs around the town in a hairy gorilla costume. He is seen by people who think he is big foot which attracts tourists and a film crew (Thomas Lennon) wanting to catch the beast. The comedy is variable and Thomas Lennon is annoying as the Australian television star, though there is a good understated supporting performance from Judy Greer who works in the shop and has affections for the owner.
