Astronauts get transported to a future earth that is run by apes and humans are their slaves. This was the start of a new period of politcal science fiction making statements of where humanity was going. This is a mix of sci-fi and action and almost a western film as well. This led to a series of sequals. The strength of the film is the quality of the make-up of the ape charcters.
