A woman (Googie Withers) who has a somewhat dubious reputation is abused by her alcoholic husband who runs a pub. A chance encounter with the son (Gordon Jackson) of the local pharmacist (Mervyn Johns) gives her the opportunity to steal some poison with which to murder her husband. However people get suspicious about his death. There is a good performance from Googie Withers as the woman turning to murder and from Mervyn Johns as the strict Victorian father dictating the careers of his two daughters (Jean Ireland and Sally Ann Howes).
