The enigmatic phantom (Lon Chaney) of the Paris opera house helps a young girl (Mary Philbin) take the lead role at the expense of the more well known star (Mary Fabian). His infatuation for her, takes her into the basements of the opera house. This version of the story has good performances from Lon Chaney and Mary Philbin. Although the plot diverges from the novel it does have a suitable eerie and gothic feel to it.
