A lawyer (Robert Taylor) who has defended gangsters falls in love with nightclub entertainer (Cyd Charisse) who wants him to give up defending the bad people, but the gangster are determined to keep him on their side. The film is a curious mix of styles. It is partly a Technicolor piece of filmnoir as Robert Taylor tries to escape the clutches of the gangsters he has been working for. It is also partly romance with musical numbers and dancing from Cyd Charisse.
