Gary Cooper is a Texas ranger on the trail of a man wanted for murder who follows him to Canada where he gets involved in a war between the Canadian Police and the local French/native mixed race tribe. The situation is complicated by the interrelationship between Gary Cooper, Robert Preston, Madeleine Carroll and Paulette Goddard the daughter of the man he is chasing.
