In 14th century Europe, Sean Connery and his young assistant Christian Slater investigate a series of suspisious deaths in an isolated monastry. As they investigate they uncover a conspiracy of silence. This is an effective medieval who-dun-it that is well cast and evokes the feel of a medieval monastry and raises some of the theological issues of the period. It has one of the best performances from Sean Connery. The film is based on the novel by Umberto Eco.
