This film portrays the life, loves, ups and down of a prosperous middle class English family during the early years of World War 2. It manages to mix the routine life of civilians during the war and the immenent threat of death. Both Greer Garson as the matriarch of the family and Teresa Wright as the young woman marrying into the family rightly won Oscars for their performances.
