The married crown prince of Austria (Mel Ferrer) was having an affair with a 17 year old baroness (Audrey Hepburn) that ended in the deaths of both of them. The script is based on real life events and their death in 1889. Although considered a murder/suicide pact, there are other theories. This was made as a live television broadcast for American television and was a very expensive production for the time. A recording was made using a kinescope off a studio monitor which was of poor quality. Recent digital technology has led to an improved copy becoming available. It is notable for being a good live performance from Audrey Hepburn.
