Comment/Synopsis

A small Mexican village recruits seven hired gunmen to protect them from bandits who come and steal from them. This is the American remake of the classic Japanese film The Seven Samuri. Yul Brynner had bought the rights to the film from Akira Kurosawa. This has a good cast and is well produced and directed by John Sturges. It is one of the films that Yul Brynner is known for. There is a particularly good performance from Steve McQueen in one of his early film roles. Filming was reputedly difficult as Yul Brynner and Steve McQueen diid not get on. It is also noted for the theme music from Elmer Bernstein which was nominated for an Oscar.
