An English woman (Margaret Lockwood) meets and falls in love with a French man (Paul Dupuis). She goes blind but he still marries her. However when they go to live in his family mansion the woman (Kathleen Byron) who has always had designs on him conspires to separate them and have him for herself. The basic plot has been used numerous times before with the new wife trying to be sent mad (see Rebecca and Gaslight and more). The main problem with the film is that the characters are bland and it is hard to relate or be inspiried by them. Margaret Lockwood gives a fine performance in the lead role as the blind woman, but the issue is with the script.
